USS Buchanan (DD-484) Alongside USS Wasp (CV-7) to refuel, while en route to the Guadalcanal-Tulagi invasion area. Note her Measure 12 (Modified) camouflage scheme, and the heavy line rigged between the 2 ships. USS Buchanan, part of Task Force 18, Task Unit 18.3.7, refueled from USS Wasp on July 9 and 15, 1942. After rendezvousing in Nuku’alofa Harbor, Tongatabu, 3 American Task Forces combined for practice landing exercises on Fiji. Buchanan joined Fire Support Group Mike, Task Group 62.4. Task Force 62, enroute to the Solomon Islands for Operation Watchtower, the invasion of Guadalcanal and Tulagi, embarked on August 1, 1942. USS Buchanan refused from USS Libra (AK-53) on August 4, 1942.
