| USS Buchanan (DD-484) Refueling from USS Wasp (CV-7) while en route to the Guadalcanal-Tulagi invasion area. Buchanan is painted in Camouflage Measure 12 (Modified). Also note the 5-inch (127 millimeter)/38 caliber gun aboard Wasp, in the lower left. USS Buchanan, part of Task Force 18, Task Unit 18.3.7, refueled from USS Wasp on July 9 and 15, 1942. After rendezvousing in Nuku’alofa Harbor, Tongatabu, 3 American Task Forces combined for practice landing exercises on Fiji. Buchanan joined Fire Support Group Mike, Task Group 62.4. Task Force 62, enroute to the Solomon Islands for Operation Watchtower, the invasion of Guadalcanal and Tulagi, embarked on August 1, 1942.
