White rags are wrapped around his rifle for additional camouflage. St. Vith.” United States Army Sergeant Marvin C. Eans, Jr. (March 16, 1924 – February 12, 2009) demonstrates new winter camouflage developed by the 1st United States Army during the Battle of the Bulge. American soldiers were hampered by a lack of cold weather gear. Eans was inducted into the United States Army on March 8, 1943, and appointed Acting Corporal for the men from Owensboro, Kentucky headed to Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Sent to Fort Jackson, South Carolina in August 1943 for training as an Engineer. Arrived in Europe on November 22, 1944. | |
