Refugees evacuating the Belgian Town of Bastogne

Original caption: “United States troops are holding the town against the power thrusts of the enemy. As a tribute to the heroic exploits of American forces, Bastogne has erected memorials in their honor.” Civilians evacuated in the face of the German offensive. Some 3,000 were trapped with the 101st Airborne Division and elements of the 10th Armored Division. Those that could escape headed to Vaux les Rosieres.
