Image Information
Original caption: “Men of the [United States Army] Eighth Infantry Regiment attempt to move forward and are pinned down by German small arms fire. Men seek cover behind hedges and signs to return fire.” The 8th Infantry Regiment successfully assaulted Libin and secured the town the next day. The 8th Infantry Regiment assaulted Utah Beach on June 6, 1944. It was the 1st of the 4th Infantry Division’s infantry regiments to land on Utah Beach. The Belgian Government subsequently awarded the regiment the Belgian Fourragere. The regiment was inactivated on February 25, 1946, at Camp Butner, North Carolina.
