USS Idaho commenced firing on Okinawa with her main battery at 0626 Hours and her 5-inch (127 millimeter)/38 caliber secondary battery at 0647 Hours. At 0802 Hours, Idaho was in range with her 40 millimeter (1.57 inch) antiaircraft guns for 15 minutes, firing a 1,000 rounds. Securing from General Quarters at 1231 Hours, Idaho had fired 195 rounds of 14-inch High Capacity explosive shells and 534 rounds of 5-inch Anti-Aircraft Common shells. | |
