USS Biloxi (CL-80) Ship’s officers and crew pose on her forecastle and forward superstructure, during Biloxi’s shakedown cruise, October 1943. USS Biloxi’s crew numbered 1,255 officers and men. A substantial number of those sailors were gunners. At center is United States Navy Captain Daniel M. McGurl (October 2, 1896 – April 17, 1976), who commanded USS Biloxi from commissioning on August 31, 1943, to October 1944. He was later promoted to Rear Admiral. Next to him is Commander Robert R. Craighill (November 23, 1907 – April 19, 1999), Biloxi’s Executive Officer.
