| United Kingdom Royal Army soldiers queueing for rescue at the Bray Dunes between Dunkirk and the Belgian border. The dunes themselves, from where this picture was taken, offered more safety from the Luftwaffe than the flat sand of the beach. This view was taken early in the evacuation; the men form up in good order to wait for rescue. The beach is not yet clogged with vehicles and debris. Note the dispatch motorcycle rider in the center of the photo, and men disposing of unneeded gear at right. | |
