| Mound of corpses in crematorium courtyard at Buchenwald Konzentrationslager (“Concentration Camp”). These bodies were exposed for weeks, and many Americans and British correspondents and visitors saw and photographed them. Technician 5th Class Ardean R. Miller III (September 20, 1915 – 1984) of the 165th Signal Photographic Company specialized in large color photographs. He later describes the assignment to photograph the liberated Buchenwald concentration camp as the worst of his career. According to his wife Norma Renouf Miller 9May 11, 1924 – October 27, 2007), he rarely spoke about his impressions, and when he did, it was “with incredulous horror.” Miller went on to be a successful advertising photographer. He used extreme color palettes that celebrated joy of life. | |
