| Original caption: “General view of the Allied beachhead shortly after D-Day, showing shipping inshore, and breakwater made of sunken Liberty ships.” In a photo by Robert Capa (October 22, 1913 – May 25, 1954), Omaha Beach is bustling with traffic days after the landing. General Motors Corporation CCKW 2½-ton 6×6 trucks carry supplies from beached Landing Craft Tanks (LCTs) that bring it in from Liberty ships and other cargo transports. Note the crane on the beach, and the DUKW amphibious truck under wraps in center right. Tents are already being erected for quarters in the lower foreground. Barrage balloons protect the beachhead from low flying planes. | |
