Führer Adolf Hitler salutes the parade of SA at the 1935 Reichsparteitag der Freiheit

Image Information
Reichsparteitag. Der Vorbeimarsch der SA am Führer. (“Parade of SA troops past Hitler.”) Sunday, September 15, 1935, was dedicated to the Sturm Abteilung (SA) and the Schutzstaffel (SS). The day began with a parade of these 2 organizations at 0800 Hours in the Luitpold Arena. Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP – “National Socialist German Workers’ Party”) Führer Adolf Hitler (April 20, 1889 – 30 April 30, 1945) and Stabschef SA Viktor Lutze (December 28, 1890 – May 2, 1943) addressed the men and led them in a ceremony honoring the war dead. The parade then marched to the Adolf-Hitler-Platz downtown. In this photo, Hitler salutes the parade of SA at the 1935 Reichsparteitag der Freiheit (“Reich Party Rally of Freedom”). Present are Lutze, Oberster SA-Führer Franz Pfeffer von Salomon (February 19, 1888 – April 12, 1968) and Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe (“Supreme Commander of the Air Force”) Hermann Goering (January 12, 1893 – October 15, 1946). The 1935 Nuremberg Rally was notable for the introduction of the Nuremberg Laws, the cornerstone of the legalized persecution of Jews in Germany. They stripped German Jews of their German citizenship, barred marriage and “extramarital sexual intercourse” between Jews and other Germans, and barred Jews from flying the German flag, which would now be the swastika.
