| Executions of Jews by German army mobile killing units (Einsatzgruppen) near Ivangorod, Ukraine. The photo was mailed from the Eastern Front to Germany and intercepted at a Warsaw post office by a member of the Polish resistance collecting documentation on Nazi war crimes. The original print was owned by Science Professor Tadeusz Mazur (June 28, 1940 – February 4, 2000) and resistance fighter and photographer Jerzy Tomaszewski ((1924 – 26 January 2016), who obtained the photo, and now resides in Historical Archives in Warsaw. The original German inscription on the back of the photograph reads, “Ukraine 1942, Jewish Action [operation], Ivangorod.” Neo-Nazis have denied the validity of this photo, claiming the uniforms and weapons are not German; that it is Soviet soldiers executing enemies of Stalin; that Polish Communists fabricated it to falsely accuse Germany of war crimes. The photo has been repeatedly examined and shown to be German soldiers executing Ukrainian Jews in 1942. A 2nd photo was published, depicting the same time and place, showing the same men with a mass grave. | |
