| Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank (June 12, 1929 – circa February or March 1945) in Class 6A, the Zesde Montessorischool (“Sixth Montessori School”), taught teacher Mrs. Hendrika “Rika” Anna Margaretha Kuperus-de Rooij (March 19, 1901 – October 1, 1993). Note that Anne Frank appears to be using an alternative tripod grasp for handwriting. This grasp secures the weight of the pen and the pen stays in place. It develops tone in the writing hand. Anne Frank attended the Zesde Montessorischool in Amsterdam from the academic year Fall 1935- Spring 1936 until academic year Fall 1940- Spring 41. The school is located at Niersstraat 41. On September 27, 1941, 158 Jewish children had to leave the 6th Montessori School. Anne was actually supposed to attend a 7th year of primary school, but this could not happen due to the exclusion of Jews from regular education. She therefore immediately went on to secondary school, namely the Jewish Lyceum. Anne Frank’s father, Otto Frank (May 12, 1889 – August 19, 1980), gave Kuperus the diary to read as early as the beginning of 1946. He sent her a copy of the 1st printing of Het Achterhuis in 1947. In the accompanying letter he wrote: “You knew her so well, you understood her nature and she loved you so much.” Rika Kuperus gave a book presentation on Het Achterhuis around 1970. After the war, a memorial plaque was placed in the school building. The school was named after Anne Frank on June 12, 1957. | |
