| The Cologne Cathedral at the center of the destroyed city center. The collapsed Deutz Suspension Bridge that had fallen into the Rhine River is beyond. Almost unrecognizable is the Groß Saint Martin Church, between the bridge and the Cathedral. This Catholic Church was rebuilt after the war. To the left is the Köln Hauptbahnhof (“Cologne Central Station”) Only the 1st and 2nd class waiting rooms underneath Trankgasse and Johannisstraße streets survived the bombings and fighting in the city center and after the station was rebuilt, they are now used as a restaurant and the Alter Wartesaal events centre. | |
