USS President Adams (AP-38), as seen from USS Wasp (CV-7) on the eve of the Guadalcanal-Tulagi invasion. Note red lead primer showing through the boot topping along her waterline and large crowd of men on her decks. Aș part of Task Force 18, USS President Adams traveled from San Diego, California, United States, on July 1, 1942, and arrived at Nuku’alofa Harbor, Tongatabu on July 18. USS President Adams was assigned to Transport Division D, Task Unit 62.1.4, X-Ray Group, for the Guadalcanal landings on August 7, 1942.
