It is possible that this view was taken during the Guadalcanal-Tulagi operation, in July-August 1942. Attached to Task Force 18, USS Wilson refueled from US Wasp on July 9 and July 15, 1942. After rendezvousing in Nuku’alofa Harbor, Tongatabu, 3 American Task Forces combined for practice landing exercises on Fiji. USS Wilson was assigned to Fire Support Group Love, Fire Section 5, Task Unit 62.3.5 for the invasion of Guadalcanal and Tulagi. USS Wilson refueled from USS Fuller (AP-14) on August 4, 1942. | |
