| Original caption: “United States GIs inspect the remains of an ammunition truck hit by Japanese fire on the beach at Iwo Jima.” A CCKW 21⁄2-ton, 6 by 6 truck serving as an ammunition carrier was struck by a Japanese shell, touching off a large explosion, obliterating the vehicle. Marines inspect the aftermath. Shrapnel damage can be seen in the LVT Amtrac “Marjorie June” in the right foreground.
