Caption:
Panzerkampfwagen IV ausf H turret number 923 with Soviet T-34 tank treads used as additional armor. Note Schurzen (armored skirt) hung from the sides of the tank to defeat shaped charges from damaging the bogie and road wheels. The ausf H was armed with a 75mm gun that fired high velocity shells to defeat the Soviet T-34. The Panzerkampfwagen IV was the most numerous German tank of the war, but its numbers could not compare to the quantities of Soviet T-34s and American M4 Shermans.
