| USS Marblehead (CL-12) underway, around the time she transitioned from the Atlantic to the Pacific Fleet. In January 1938, she would be assigned to the Asiatic Fleet, which would place her in combat with the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Battle of Makassar Strait in February 1942. Marblehead would receive 2 bomb hits and a near miss to her fantail, but she would be able to escape to Ceylon, and then South Africa, unlike much of the rest of the Asiatic Fleet. | |
