| “This is an M4A3 76w tank, with the 784th Tank Battalion (Colored) near the Rhine in early 1945. M4A3 Sherman tank with 76 millimeter (3 inch) high velocity gun crewed by the 784th Tank Battalion, a United States Army segregated independent tank combat unit. This M4A3 is fitted with metal chevron track and duckbill extenders. Attached to the segregated 5th Tank Group, the 784th deployed to the European continent in December 1944 and participated in combat along the Roer River with the 104th Infantry Division in January 1945 and were released on February 3. They joined the 35th Infantry Division in an offensive starting on February 8, 1945. On February 26, 1945, Able Company of the 784th assisted elements of the 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, in capturing Hilfarth. The next day they captured Wassenberg. Baker Company, with the 137th Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, took Golkrath, a village near Erkelenz. | |
