| USS Astoria (CA-34), center, and USS Minneapolis (CA-36), left, Moored near Aiea Landing, Pearl Harbor. USS Astoria docked in Berth B-16 at 1059 Hours, June 13, 1942. She moved to the drydock on June 20 for a 3-day yard period. She then moved to Berth B-22 until June 30, when she stood out for target practice. She is then moved to Berth Cast 3 for repairs and upgrades. USS Minneapolis moored in Berth B-17 at 1727 hours, June 13, 1942. She entered drydock on June 16 for a 2-day yard period. On June 19, she returned to Berth B-17. On June 20, she moved to Berth B-22 and moored on the starboard side of USS California (BB-44). The next day, she moved to Berth B-21. On June 26, she moored next to USS New Orleans (CA-32) in Berth Cast 3. On June 27, she moved to Berth Cast 4 next to USS Vestal (AR-4). She remained there until she left Pearl Harbor on July 7, 1942. USS Astoria and USS Minneapolis were in Berth Cast 7 in early July, when this photo was taken. Note that Astoria’s forward gun bags have been painted to match Measure 21, while her 2nd turret has gun bags still in canvas white. | |
