| Original caption: “The Andrews Sisters entertaining soldiers on pier after the Queen Mary arrived.” American singing act the Andrews Sisters, consisting of LaVerne S. (July 8, 1911 – May 8, 1967); Maxene A. (January 3, 1916 – October 21, 1995); and Patricia M. “Patty” (February 16, 1918 – January 30, 2013) sing for returning American soldiers, including elements of the 35th “Santa Fe” Infantry Division, 36th “Texas” Infantry Division, 63rd “Blood and Fire” Infantry Division, 84th “Railsplitters” Infantry Division and 100th “Century” Infantry Division. Royal Mail Steamship Queen Mary, impressed into wartime service, arrived in New York at 0930 Hours in the fog on September 28, 1945, with 14,662 passengers. 211 were civilians. Ships in the harbor blew their whistles as she docked at Pier 90 at 50th Street. Most of the soldiers went to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, for processing and honorable discharge. The Andrews Sisters were joined on Pier 90 by singers Jane Froman (November 10, 1907 – April 22, 1980), Jo Strafford (November 12, 1917 – July 16, 2008), and Bea Wain (April 30, 1917 – August 19, 2017).
