Ninety-Fifth Infantry Division Prior to Disembarking at New York City

Original caption: “United States soldiers from the First and Ninth Armies stand on the top deck of the Navy transport ship Monticello in New York after returning home from Europe.” The 95th Infantry Division prepares to disembark from USS Monticello (AP-61) as it arrives in New York Harbor on June 26, 1935. USS Monticello (AP-61) was converted to a troopship on September 10, 1942. She served in Operation Torch in November 1942. She then sailed to the China-Burma-India Theatre. After serving in the Pacific, she sailed across the Atlantic. The Monticello docked at Staten Island, New York, on June 26 with the 377th Infantry. The regiment entrained in Jersey or the staging center at Camp Kilmer, near New Brunswick, New Jersey.
