| United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill (November 30, 1874 – January 24, 1965) visits the remains of the House of Commons. The heaviest attacks on London came during May 1941. On the night of May 10, 2,000 fires were started, 1,212 people were killed, and 1,769 were wounded. The House of Commons was seriously damaged, but the Germans lost 10 percent of their bomber force. This was the last sustained raid for 3 years, until V-1 and V-2 rockets started falling on London in 1944. | |
