HQS Wellington is a Grimsby class sloop that served convoy escort duty in World War II. She is now the Headquarters ship for †he Honourable Company of Master Mariners, a non-profit organization that is one of the Royal Charter guilds for business organizations. They are primarily concerned with nautical education about the UK's Merchant Marine. Wellington was built in 1934 and was sent to the Pacific. She transferred to the Atlantic and began escorting convoys in 1939. she had four 4" guns and four .50 caliber machine guns. She could make 16.5 knots at high speed. She was crewwed by 100 officers and men. Some ships had more crewmembers. Her sister ships served with India, Australia, and the Royal Navy. Four of them were sunk during World War II/ Wellington's port holes are contrasted with the London Eye, a popular tourist attraction. The Union Jack flies from the foremast.
