HMS Preisdent (ex-Saxifrage) was a Anchusa class corvette that operated as a Q-ship in World War I. Most World War I German subs used surface attacks. Built to look like merchant ships, they would shed their disguise and fight the surfaced U-boat. Now it's a publicly available meeting house. During World War II she served as a training ship for the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. In World War II, American submarines encountered Japanese Q-ships, but they weren't very effective. Most sub fighting in World War II was with torpedoes, which limited the effectiveness of Q-ships. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.
