Today's News About V1

V1 Bibliography

Because the pulse jet engine couldn't generate enough thrust to lift off the V1, the launch ramp had to catapault the V1 into the air. This was accomplished with a piston inside the launch ramp that was fired by a mix of Hydrogen Peroxide and Potassium Permanganate in this catalyst chamber, which would power a piston to 250 miles per hour (400 kilometers per hour). Once in flight, the V1 would reach speeds of 400 miles per hour (645 kilometers per hour). Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.
