Today's News About V1

V1 Bibliography

The V1 was named by Goebbels, who promised teh German public a weapon to strike back at the Allies for the devastating air raids punishing Germany. It carried 1,832 pounds (830 kilograms) of Amatol explosive and had a range of 150 miles (240 kilometers) that was later extended to 250 miles so that it could be fired at London from Holland. It could also be air-dropped from a Heinkel He-111H, but that was ineffective because of the sound and light eminating from the launch made the motherplane a target for Allied fighters. This V1 at the Battle of Britain exhibit is mounted on the aft section of its launch ramp.
