Food was prepared during fighting and counterbattery fire and distributed to the troops above. Plates of wax boiled beef, potatoes and carrots were everywhere in the museum. I don't know if that was actually what they ate. I do know that food was short in 1940-1943 and rationing continued until 1952. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.
