On top of the battlement tower, a plaque has been installed with a painting of Dover Castle during 1942. Both German and Commonwealth shipping passed close to Dover on their way north or south along the French coast. Both shore batteries and aircraft would be called out to destroy the enemy. Called “Hellfire Corner” for the constant shelling and bombing, Dover was on the front line for much of the war. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.
