This view, shot from the highest point in Dover Castle, shows the range of Battlements erected over centuries. It's amazing that Dover Castle didn't receive more damage during World War II, especially since it was an active combat area with legitimate military targets. The rumor was that it was spared because Hitler wanted to make it his operational headquarters after the German invasion. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.
