We hope you had a happy thanksgiving. With so many separated from their friends and families this weekend, I hope you have the time to write a serviceperson and say hello.

Fixed a broken link to the slide show for Singapore. The largest surrender in British Army history, the battle was sad and poignant. There’s a myth that Signapore’s guns faced only the sea, and the Japanese came down the peninsula so they were unable to be used, but they could be turned around. The problem for the British at Singapore was the lack of fresh water. You can see the slide show here.

A new essay about Italy is available. I think it's a first draft, anyway. Italian politics of the 1940s are quite complicated.

A new essay about Hungary is available. I don’t know much about Hungary so this took some research. If you have things to add, please let me know. I think there’s lots of research opportunities about Hitler's Axis allies. Italy has been extensively written about, but not so much the others.

A new essay about France is available. I haven’t posted the good links around the Internet about France in World War II, but keep checking that space in late 2006. I’ll have a lot more available after June when I go on leave.
What would you like to see on this site? E-mail me with what topics you would like to see on the World War II Multimedia Database and I’ll start with those. I will post responses here on this page so people can see what others are interested in.

I will be on Korean TV - Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) (doesn't SBS look like a fun channel? :-) - sometime soon about this image. SBS is doing a documentary about the soldier in the photo - is or isn't he Korean? Stephen Ambrose, in his book D-Day, talks about two Korean men found on Utah Beach. The National Archives caption for this photo says he’s Japanese - but what are the chances of a Japanese soldier in a German OST battalion uniform? Drop me a line with your thoughts. My E-mail is at the bottom of the page. I’ll post people’s thoughts here until the forums go back up.

Welcome to the new site design for the World War II Multimedia Database. It's the same content, but with an easier-to-read page, table-based navigation for easier bookmarking, and some additional content. Oh, yeah, and ads. I'm hoping to make some money with the site, so I can update it more frequently. I hope you like it. Shoot me an E-mail (address below) with your thoughts. I bet there’s lots of errors in the code, so let me know about those.
