Leningrad
Gabriel Byrne and Mira Sorvino star in another love story about two western journalists that are trapped in the siege of Leningrad in 1941. IMdB's plot description, written by the director, make it seem really over the top romantic. I have trouble believing all these people were worried about romance when they were starving to death. If the plot summary turns out ot be historically aaccurate, these Westerners must have seemed very self-involved and silly to the Leningrad citizens.
I didn't hear about this being released in November 2006 in the United States, so I don't know if it's faile ot find a distributor, or is a foreign-language film. Sorvino studied languages in college and can speak Chinese, but I don't know about Russian. I also don't know that Byrne speaks Russian either. Perhaps they were dubbed into the Russian DVD version released in February 2007 and American viewers will just have to wait. In the mean time, here's a really good book on the Leningrad siege:
