The 6" Director Control Tower had Type 284 radar until 1944, when the more advanced Type 274 was introduced. This radar operated at a wavelength of 10cm at a power output of 400 Kilowatts. The radar dish looked like a kitchen utensil commonly used to make girlled cheese sandwiches, so it was nicknamed the "double cheese" radar.
