Avro Lancaster Mark X
|
|
Lancasters were built in Canada by Victory Aircraft and in the United Kingdom as well by several manufacturers. This aircraft served with 428 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force and performed maritime patrols after the war. The Lancaster used four Merlin engines, the same powerplant used in the Spitfire and Mustang fighters. The type dropped the dambuster bombs that broke the Mohne and Eder Dams and the grand slam bombs that finally sank the KMS Tirpitz. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.
